Encapsulated Superparamagnetic Iron Oxide Nanoparticles
**Semantic type:** Indicator, Reagent, or Diagnostic Aid
**Definition:** A nanoparticle formulation encapsulating multi-cores of superparamagnetic iron oxide (IO), that may be used to localize cancerous tissues. Upon administration, encapsulated superparamagnetic IO nanoparticles selectively accumulate in cancerous tissues. Upon the application of an alternating current magnetic field (AMF) generated by an electromagnetic induction system (EIS), the AMF is converted to heat by the encapsulated superparamagnetic IO nanoparticles. This may lead to thermal destruction of cancer cells.
**Synonyms:** - Encapsulated Superparamagnetic IO Nanoparticles - SaNPs - Sarah (TM) Nanoparticles
