**Definition:** Human WNK4 wild-type allele is located in the vicinity of 17q21.2 and is approximately 16 kb in length. This allele, which encodes serine/threonine-protein kinase WNK4 protein, plays a role in the phosphorylation and activation of downstream kinases in signal transduction pathways regulating both blood pressure and ion transport in the distal nephron. Mutations in the gene are associated with pseudohypoaldosteronism type IIB.
