Clinical Stage III Oropharyngeal (HPV-Associated) Carcinoma AJCC v9

**Definition:** Stage III includes: (T0-T3, N3, M0); (T4, Any N, M0). T0: No evidence of primary tumor. T1: Tumor equal to or less than 2 cm in greatest dimension. T2: Tumor measuring more than 2 cm but equal to or less than 4 cm in greatest dimension. T3: Tumor measuring more than 4 cm in greatest dimension or extension to lingual surface of epiglottis. T4: Tumor invading any of the following: larynx, deep/extrinsic muscle of the tongue (genioglossus, hyoglossus, palatoglossus, styloglossus), pterygoid muscles (medial and/or lateral), hard palate, mandible, pterygoid plates (medial and/or lateral), nasopharynx, skull base, or encasing carotid artery. Note: mucosal extension to lingual surface of epiglottis from primary tumors of the base of the tongue and vallecula does not constitute invasion of the larynx. N3: Tumor involvement of lymph node(s) measuring more than 6 cm in greatest dimension or tumor involvement of contralateral or bilateral lymph node(s) with unequivocal imaging-detected and/or clinical extranodal extension.
