**Definition:** A term that refers to the pathologic staging of oropharyngeal (HPV-associated) carcinoma, following the rules of the TNM AJCC v9 classification system. This staging system applies to human papillomavirus (HPV)-associated oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinomas. It does not apply to HPV-independent oropharyngeal carcinomas, oropharyngeal neuroendocrine carcinomas, mucosal melanomas, and salivary gland carcinomas. (from AJCC 9th Ed.)
