MIPOL1 wt Allele

**Definition:** Human MIPOL1 wild-type allele is located in the vicinity of 14q13.3-q21.1 and is approximately 381 kb in length. This allele, which encodes mirror-image polydactyly gene 1 protein, may play a role in tumor suppression. A balanced chromosomal translocation, t(2;14)(p23.3;q13) that disrupts this gene and may involve an as of yet undetermined partner is associated with mirror-image polydactyly (Laurin-Sandrow Syndrome). Other chromosomal rearrangements involving the gene and various partners are associated with solid tumors.
