**Definition:** Human BNC2 wild-type allele is located within 9p22.3-p22.2 and is approximately 461 kb in length. This allele, which encodes zinc finger protein basonuclin-2, is involved in the regulation of gene expression. Allelic variation appears to be related to skin pigmentation. Mutations in the gene are associated with congenital lower urinary tract obstruction and may be associated with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis.
