PFB Microbubbles and PFMCP Microdroplets Aqueous Dispersion PS101
**Semantic type:** Pharmacologic Substance
**Definition:** An aqueous dispersion of microclusters of negatively charged perfluorobutane (PFB) microbubbles and positively charged perfluoromethylcyclopentane (PFMCP) microdroplets, that may potentially be used to enhance the delivery of co-administered chemotherapeutic agent(s) to tumor tissue upon ultrasound insonation. Upon intravenous administration, PFB microbubbles and PFMCP microdroplets aqueous dispersion PS101 follows the blood flow around the body. Upon the first step of ultrasound insonation at local, targeted tumor tissue, high frequency ultrasound activation leads to the oscillation of the microbubbles, which induces a phase shift of the microdroplets from liquid to gas and results in the formation of large bubbles that lodge within the microvasculature of the tumor. Upon the second step of ultrasound insonation, low frequency ultrasound leads to oscillations that increase the permeability of the vasculature, thereby enhancing the delivery of co-administered chemotherapeutic agent(s) to the tumor.
