**Definition:** A rare disorder characterized by the development of an abscess in the thyroid gland. It usually follows an upper respiratory tract, pharyngeal, or middle ear infection. It is usually caused by Staphylococcus or Streptococcus infection. It presents with fever, pain, and neck mass.
