gp100 and GM-CSF DNA/Gold Vaccine

**Semantic type:** Immunologic Factor|Nucleic Acid, Nucleoside, or Nucleotide|Pharmacologic Substance

**Definition:** A vaccine consisting of microscopic gold particles coated with plasmid DNA encoding the glycoprotein 100 (gp100) melanoma antigen and granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF). Vaccination with gp100 and GM-CSF DNA/gold vaccine may stimulate the host immune system to direct cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTL) against gp100 positive cells, resulting in decreased tumor growth. GM-CSF is thought to increase the induction and activation of antigen-presenting cells (APC), allowing for a reduction in the dose of gp100 administered. (NCI04)

**Synonyms:** - gp100+GM-CSF DNA/Gold
