Hydrocodone/Acetaminophen

**Definition:** A combination preparation of the analgesic acetaminophen and the semisynthetic opioid agonist hydrocodone with analgesic and antitussive activities. Acetaminophen exerts its analgesic activity by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis while hydrocodone exerts its analgesic activity by binding to the mu-receptors in the central nervous system (CNS), thereby mimicking the effects of endogenous opioids.
