Lidocaine Oral Solution

**Definition:** A synthetic aminoethylamide with anesthetic activity applied topically to the mucous membranes in the mouth and/or throat. Lidocaine stabilizes the neuronal cell membrane by binding to and inhibiting voltage-gated sodium channels, thereby inhibiting the initiation and conduction of nerve impulses and producing a reversible loss of sensation. Lidocaine oral solution applied to specific areas in the mouth and/or throat is used to provide relief of pain and discomfort during dental procedures and due to irritated or inflamed mucous membranes of the mouth and pharynx.
