Dorsum of Tongue

**Definition:** The superior, convex surface of the tongue, which is divided by the sulcus terminalis into anterior or oral (presulcal) and posterior or pharyngeal (postsulcal) parts. The mucosal membrane of the anterior two-thirds contain numerous varieties of papillae while the posterior one-third has no papillae and a cobblestone appearance due to underlying nodules of lymphoid tissue.
