**Definition:** The deepest and most prominent groove on the lateral surface of the brain beginning at the anterior perforated substance that runs back and slightly upwards. The fissure of Sylvius, also known as the lateral cerebral sulcus, separates the frontal and parietal lobes from the temporal lobe.
