**Definition:** One of a group of neck muscles attached to the hyoid bone used in mastication and swallowing, which are classified as either suprahyoid muscles, the stylohyoid, digastric, mylohyoid, and geniohyoid, or infrahyoid muscles, the omohyoid, sternohyoid, thyrohyoid, and sternothyroid.
