Pancreatic Centroacinar Cell

**Semantic type:** Cell

**Definition:** A cell with a centrally placed nucleus found in the proximal portion of pancreatic intercalated duct that protrudes into the acinus. It secretes bicarbonate made in the cell by the dissociation of carbonic acid in the presence of carbonic anhydrase II. These cells are thought to act as signal transducers, influencing the degranulation of the acinar cells.
