Sartorius Muscle

**Definition:** A long, thin striated muscle of the anterior compartment of the thigh, which takes its origin from the anterior superior iliac spine of the pelvic bone, and inserts on the anteromedial surface of the upper tibia in the pes anserinus; it functions to flex, abduct, and laterally rotate the thigh at the hip joint, and to flex the leg at the knee joint.
