**Definition:** A small bundle of axon fibers and a sensory (ascending) tract located at the periphery of the dorsal horn that runs throughout the length of the spinal cord and, after synapsing on second-order neurons in the dorsal horn, decussates, and then ascends within the spinothalamic tracts.
