Esophageal Carcinoma
**Semantic type:** Neoplastic Process
**Definition:** A carcinoma that arises from the esophageal mucosa. Two major histologic types of esophageal carcinoma have been described: squamous cell carcinoma and adenocarcinoma. This type of cancer is associated with excessive ethanol and cigarette usage.
