**Definition:** An isochromosome derived from chromosome 8 that results from transverse splitting of the centromere and is characterized by loss of the short arm and duplication of the long arm (8q). This abnormality is associated with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, chronic myelomonocytic leukemia and acute monocytic leukemia.
