Recombinant C5a

**Definition:** A recombinantly produced form of the complement C5a peptide, which is an endogenous product generated by the cleavage of complement component C5 by C5 convertase. C5a acts as an anaphylatoxin, which induces increased endothelial cell adhesion molecule (CAM) expression, vascular permeability and smooth muscle cell contraction, and as a chemokine, which promotes leukocyte migration and adhesion.
