**Definition:** The Cancer Institute of New Jersey is dedicated to improving the prevention, detection, treatment, and care of patients with cancer, through the translation of laboratory discoveries into clinical practice. Research at the Center is integrated with the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, School of Public Health, and several schools and departments of Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, and Princeton University. It became an NCI-designated cancer center in 1997 and achieved comprehensive status in 2003.
