Gastric Adenocarcinoma
**Semantic type:** Neoplastic Process
**Definition:** An adenocarcinoma that arises from the stomach glandular epithelium. Microscopically, two important histologic types are recognized: the diffuse and intestinal types. It usually affects older individuals and is strongly associated with Helicobacter pylori infection. The majority of patients present with advanced disease due to lack of early symptoms, and the overall prognosis is poor.
