Base Pair Miscoding

**Semantic type:** Phenomenon or Process

**Definition:** Any DNA sequence rearrangement that results in the exchange of the original sequence with noncomplementary bases, resulting in a mismatched DNA duplex. Such events occur as a result of low-fidelity repair or replication reactions. If left unrepaired, base pair miscoding can result in mutation to one of the daughter DNA duplexes.
