Chloroprene

**Definition:** A colorless, flammable, carcinogenic, chlorinated hydrocarbon with a pungent, ethereal odor. Chloroprene is used as a chemical intermediate in the manufacture of neoprene rubber. Exposure to this substance causes damage to the skin, lungs, CNS, kidneys, liver and depression of the immune system. Chloroprene is a mutagen and carcinogen in animals and is reasonably anticipated to be a human carcinogen. (NCI05)
