Cutaneous Pigmented Spindle Cell Nevus

**Semantic type:** Neoplastic Process

**Definition:** A subtype of cutaneous Spitz nevus characterized by the presence of heavily pigmented spindle-shaped melanocytes that proliferate in the epidermis or in the epidermis and superficial dermis. It presents as a small and slightly elevated brown or black skin lesion with usually well-demarcated borders. Sometimes the clinical and morphologic features may be difficult to distinguish from melanoma.
