**Definition:** Human MET wild-type allele is located within 7q31 and is approximately 126 kb in length. This allele, which encodes hepatocyte growth factor receptor protein, plays a role in the regulation of cellular tyrosine-kinase activity. Mutations in the MET gene are associated with papillary renal carcinoma.
