This allele, which encodes tyrosine-protein kinase receptor UFO protein is involved in extracellular matrix signal transduction and cellular proliferation stimulation. The AXL gene is a chronic myelogenous leukemia-associated oncogene and is also associated with colon cancer and melanoma.
