**Definition:** Human CCN6 wild type allele is located in the vicinity of 6q21 and is approximately 17 kb in length. This allele, which encodes cellular communication network factor 6 protein, is involved in both mitochondrial electron transport and mitochondrial respiration, which may regulate skeletal growth and cartilage homeostasis. The wild type allele is expressed aberrantly at elevated levels in colon tumors. Mutations in this gene are associated with progressive pseudorheumatoid dysplasia.
