Peroneus Longus

**Definition:** The more superficial of the two muscles (peroneus longus and peroneus brevis) of the lateral compartment of the lower leg, which originates at the superior, lateral shaft of the fibula and inserts on the first metatarsal and the medial cuneiform, functioning to plantar flex and evert the foot, and which supports the lateral, longitudinal, and transverse arches.
