**Definition:** The horseshoe-shaped part of the oral cavity bounded superiorly by the ventral surface of the tongue, inferiorly by the mylohyoid muscle, anterolaterally by the gingival surfaces of the mandible, and posteriorly by the anterior tonsillar pillar.
