BRINP1 wt Allele

**Semantic type:** Gene or Genome

**Definition:** Human BRINP1 wild-type allele is located within 9q32-q33 and is approximately 203 kb in length. This allele, which encodes BMP/retinoic acid-inducible neural-specific protein 1, is involved in the modulation of cellular proliferation, the inhibition of the G1/S transition of the cell cycle, the mediation of non-apoptotic cell death and the regulation of the expression of components of the fibrinolysis pathway. Hypermethylation-based silencing or loss of homozygosity of the gene occurs in many cases of bladder cancer.
