**Definition:** A controlled-release formulation of a biodegradable poly(ortho ester) polymer, encapsulating the indazole derivative granisetron, with antiemetic activity. Upon administration of APF530, the polymer slowly erodes and releases the active ingredient granisetron. As a selective serotonin receptor antagonist, granisetron competitively blocks the action of serotonin at 5-hydroxytryptamine3 (5-HT3) receptors, resulting in the suppression of nausea and vomiting over a sustained period of time.
