**Definition:** The aspartate salt of amphetamine, a sympathomimetic amine with CNS stimulating properties. Amphetamine acts by facilitating the release of catecholamines, particularly noradrenaline and dopamine, from nerve terminals in the brain and inhibiting their uptake. Physiological effects include an increase in motor activity, euphoria, increased mental alertness, excitatory behavior, and appetite suppression.
