Methyltestosterone
**Semantic type:** Organic Chemical|Pharmacologic Substance
**Definition:** A methylated synthetic androgen receptor agonist with anabolic effects. Methyltestosterone, mimicking testosterone, binds to cytosolic androgen receptors, and the subsequent nuclear transfer of the ligand-receptor complex induces transcription initiation of androgen responsive genes.
