Plasmalogen

**Definition:** An ether lipid in which glycerol is covalently bound to a polar phospholipid head group like choline or ethanolamine, a typical ester-linked fatty acid, and an ether-linked fatty acid, which is usually a vinyl alcohol. Plasmalogens occur in nervous tissues, testes and kidneys at significant levels in vertebrates.
