**Definition:** Any assay intended to study interindividual variations in DNA sequence related to drug absorption and disposition (pharmacokinetics) or drug action (pharmacodynamics), including polymorphic variation(s) in the genes that encode the functions of transporters, metabolizing enzymes, receptors, and other proteins.
