Esophageal Basaloid Squamous Cell Carcinoma

**Definition:** A subtype of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma that predominantly affects males and is characterized by the presence of basaloid cells forming a solid or nested growth pattern. In contrast to basaloid carcinomas of the oropharynx, it does not have an association with HPV infection. Its prognosis is similar to conventional squamous cell carcinoma of the esophagus.
