**Definition:** Human EML4 wild-type allele is located within 2p22-p21 and is approximately 163 kb in length. This allele which encodes echinoderm microtubule-associated protein-like 4, may be involved in the modulation of microtubule assembly. An inversion on chromosome 2, which fuses the gene to the ALK gene, is associated with non-small cell lung cancer.
