Nelitolimod
**Semantic type:** Pharmacologic Substance
**Definition:** A class C CpG-oligodeoxynucleotide (ODN) agonist of toll-like receptor 9 (TLR9), with immunostimulatory, immunoadjuvant and antineoplastic activities. Upon administration, nelitolimod targets, binds to and activates TLR9 expressed on plasmacytoid dendritic cells (DCs), natural killer cells (NKs) and B-cells. This initiates cytokine release from DCs and activates innate immune signaling pathways, and leads to the activation of a cytotoxic T-lymphocyte (CTL)-mediated immune response against antigens expressed by the tumor cells. TLR9, a member of the TLR family, plays a fundamental role in pathogen recognition and activation of the innate immune system.
