Esketamine
**Semantic type:** Pharmacologic Substance
**Definition:** A cyclohexanone derivative and S-enantiomer of racemic ketamine, with analgesic, anesthetic and antidepressant activities. Although the mechanism of action is not fully understood, upon administration, esketamine targets, non-competitively binds to, and blocks N-methyl D-aspartate (NMDA) receptors. This reduces pain perception, induces sedation, and produce dissociative anesthesia.
