Bacillus licheniformis

**Definition:** A species of facultatively anaerobic, Gram-positive, rod shaped bacteria assigned to the phylum Firmicutes. This species is motile, spore forming, catalase positive, reduces nitrate, and hydrolyzes casein, gelatin, starch and esculin. B. licheniformis is found in soil, and is a food contaminant which pathogenic to both humans and animals.
