Cardiobacterium hominis
**Semantic type:** Bacterium
**Definition:** A species of facultatively anaerobic, Gram-negative, straight bacilli assigned to the phylum Proteobacteria. This species is nonmotile, non-spore forming, catalase negative, oxidase and indole positive, and does not reduce nitrate. C. hominis is commensal in the human nasal flora, but is associated with culture negative endocarditis after a dental procedure, especially in those with a pre-existing heart valve disorder or a prosthetic valve.
