Clostridium baratii

**Definition:** A species of anaerobic, Gram positive, rod shaped bacteria assigned to the phylum Proteobacteria. This species is motile, produces the type F toxin, does not hydrolyze gelatin, does not produce acid from trehalose, hydrolyzes esculin and reduces nitrate. C. baratii is an emerging human pathogen and a causative agent of botulism.
