**Definition:** A species of strictly anaerobic, Gram positive, rod shaped bacteria assigned to the phylum Firmicutes. This species is endospore forming, utilizes ethylene glycol as an energy source, is indole and catalase negative and does not hydrolyze esculin. C. glycolicum is an opportunistic pathogen in immunocompromised individuals and individuals with open wounds.
