**Definition:** A species of anaerobic, Gram positive, rod shaped bacteria assigned to the phylum Proteobacteria. This species is spore forming, motile, produces the type G toxin, does not hydrolyze esculin and is beta-hemolytic. C. subterminale is isolated from soil and is pathogenic, being a causative agent of botulism.
