**Definition:** A species of facultatively anaerobic, Gram negative, rod shaped bacteria in the phylum Proteobacteria. This species is motile, lactose and beta glucuronidase negative, beta glucosidase positive and utilizes cellobiose as a carbon source. L. adecarboxylata is an opportunistic pathogen in immunocompromised patients.
