**Definition:** A species of Gram positive, cocci shaped, lactic acid bacteria assigned to the phylum Firmicutes. This species is nonmotile, catalase negative and produces lactic acid from lactose fermentation. L cremoris is a member of the commensal flora of bovine skin, is used in the manufacturing of cheese and buttermilk and is an opportunistic pathogen in immunocompromised patients.
