Peptoniphilus asaccharolyticus

**Semantic type:** Bacterium

**Definition:** A species of anaerobic, Gram-positive, cocci shaped bacteria assigned to the phylum Firmicutes. This species is nonmotile, non-spore forming, indole positive, produce butyric acid and gas in peptone yeast extract medium with glucose, urease negative, and does not reduce nitrate, produce coagulase, hydrolyze esculin or starch, liquefy gelatin, ferment carbohydrates, or produce propionate from lactate. P. asaccharolyticus is commensal to the human intestinal tract but has been associated with genital tract, lung, skin, and brain abscesses.
