Rhesus Hemolytic Disease of the Newborn

**Definition:** A disorder caused when there is a Rh-factor blood-type incompatibility between the mother and fetus, and the mother's immune system forms antibodies that attack the red blood cells of her unborn child. This disorder can only occur if the mother is Rh-negative and the fetus is Rh-positive.
