**Definition:** A pathologic finding about one or more characteristics of colorectal cancer, following the rules of the TNM AJCC v7 classification system. Most cancers of the colon and many cancers of the rectum are pathologically staged after surgical exploration of the abdomen, cancer-directed surgical resection, and pathologic examination of the resected specimen.
